Yesterday, I was on a shoot, that was probably the best shoot I've ever been on. I adored the photos, the entire team was lovely, and to top it all off, the sun was shining all day long - it was perfect! Now, you might be thinking 'what the bloody hell does that have to do with the title of this blog post?' and, well, the thing that actually brought this topic to my mind, was when people were complimenting my modelling ability.

I always find it so so flattering when people comment on my ability to model. I was never taught what to do, how to move, how to pose. I was never told how to impress clients or 'woo' people at castings... I simply just learnt from experience. I threw myself into an industry, that I didn't know much about, and taught myself how to bloody kick arse at it. And so, when people say things like 'your connection with the camera is amazing!' or 'she's so good', it makes me feel really bloody proud of myself.

I find that in both the blogging and modelling industry, people can often just comment on you, almost like an inanimate object. Don't get wrong, people telling me I'm 'pretty' or 'beautiful' is such a confidence boost (and god knows my insecure arse needs it a lot of the time), but something I find incredibly lovely, is when people comment on other things about me too. And so, this is what this blog post is all about. Here are a few things that people have commented on, that have really made me feel just that tiny bit more fabulous!

1. Modelling Ability

Okay, so since I already mentioned this, I'll start with it again!
Like I said, no one has ever taught me what to do when it comes to modelling. I remember the first time when I was plonked in front of a camera, I was incredibly stiff, nervous and shy, whereas now, I think of that shoot I was on yesterday and, I'm throwing out cheesy grins and funny faces, working all different angles - I know exactly what to do. And, the cool thing is, I've simply taught myself that. I just did test shoot after test shoot until I knew what worked for me. I wanted to put my all into it and be successful at it, and so I did. (Plus, I've recently booked quite a few jobs, which has been super exciting! I feel like I'm going up in the world haha!)

2. My Personality

When people comment on my character, and not my appearance, it reminds me that I shouldn't be so 'looks-conscious' all the time, and that actually, I should remember that I'm a good person with a good heart (well, I try to be!). I'd like to think that I am kind to others - I don't ever want to appear like a bitch or anything, because that's just not who I am or who I want to be. And so, when people tell me that they think I'm nice or funny or simply just want to be my friend, it really makes my day.

3. My Blog and Career

My blog is my little empire. I have built this from scratch, and so, when people tell me they like it or compliment me on my achievements, it is really bloody cool! For example, my friend Soph and I recently met up for a good ol' catch up, and once I got home she text me to tell me how she was proud of me and how far I'd come, and that just felt really amazing! *Yay, go me!*

4. My Recovery

Now, I did just kind of briefly mention this but, I think I can separate it into it's own thing.
When people talk about my recovery, or my mental illnesses and experiences, it is honestly one of the most overwhelming things. To think that I used to be in such a terrible dark place, and now I look at where I am today (and albeit, I'm not perfect, my mind isn't perfect and life isn't perfect, but it's still a hell of a lot better), it's pretty bloody cool! It's crazy to think of how far I've managed to come and also, the fact that people acknowledge that is truly lovely.

So, there you have it. Those are just a few things that make my heart go all warm and fuzzy, and that are nice to hear about besides my looks. What kind of things do you like to be complimented on besides your looks? Is it cooking? Art? Jokes? Let me know down in the comments!
